I wade into my emotions,
but I stay in the shallow end,
only allowing the water to lap at the base of my feet,
so that I don’t get too lost in the waves if I step forward.
Don’t dive in,
don’t become consumed again,
no more drowning,
no more losing myself in the salty seas.
The excitement in my stomach during the plunge,
isn’t worth the sharp emptiness of air in my lungs,
so hold yourself fast now,
keep your feet cemented in the sand,
and only let the water lap ceaselessly against your feet.
